A Nationally Registered Historic Site

The town of Smithtown has 25 listings in the National Register of Historic Places. It is the official list of properties that are considered worthy of preservation. Being a Nationally Registered Historic Site underscores the historical importance of the Nissequogue Golf Club and the William J. Ryan Estate to the local community and the nation as a whole.

Golf

Nissequogue Golf Course, originally designed by Edgar Senne in 1968 and later renovated by architect Stephen Kay in 2002, is a private regulation course offering a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers. Featuring 18 holes with a par of 72, the course plays to a yardage of 6602 yards from the longest tees. Its rating of 72.6 and slope of 131 indicate its difficulty, while the availability of a driving range allows for practice. The course is noted for its well-maintained conditions and beautiful views, adding to the overall golfing experience.

Tennis

Nissequogue Golf Club boasts four meticulously maintained Har-Tru courts conveniently situated near the clubhouse. Tennis is a highly popular activity here, with a comprehensive program led by a dedicated Tennis Professional and experienced staff. This program is designed to engage players of all ages and skill levels, offering court time, invitations to exciting tennis events such as an opening celebration, and various clinics for both beginners and advanced players. Additionally, the club provides professional instruction available in both private and group settings.

Events

Nissequogue Golf Club is a private club with something for everyone.  The clubhouse was built in 1929. It is a beautiful, stately mansion that was originally owned by William J. Ryan, the owner and publisher of "Literary Digest." The stunning panoramic views overlooking St. James Bay are spectacular, making any event held on our patio truly extraordinary. Our Grill Room is a casual dining option, while our Wedgewood Dining Room is our formal dining area. Both dining locales are open exclusively to our members and their guests. Catered events and our social functions take place in our Harbor Room, which overlooks St. James Bay. Smaller rooms for meetings and private parties are also available.
